Your experts in insurance law

The smarter …

… choice
is us.

Insurance disputes demand experience.
You should not face them alone – but with experts
who truly understand insurance law.

Our position

We are not generalists.
We are experts
in insurance law.

More than two decades. One practice area.

For more than 20 years, insurance law has been our core specialisation. This consistent focus enables a depth of expertise that generalists cannot reach. We know the arguments insurers use, we know the case law — and we know how to win.

We have conducted proceedings before all regional and appellate courts in the region and act nationwide and internationally. Continuous professional development keeps us at the forefront of insurance law.

Selected proceedings have been accompanied all the way to the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) and the Federal Constitutional Court — with decisions that have lastingly shaped insurance law in Germany.

What we do for you

Whether a claim enforcement action, a coverage dispute, or a complex insurer confrontation — we know the subject from both sides and enforce your rights at the highest professional level.

Disability insurance (Berufsunfähigkeitsversicherung) is one of the most important policies — and one where insurers most frequently and skilfully deny benefits. Pre-contractual disclosure breaches, medical expert disputes, abstract referral to other occupations: we know all defence mechanisms from years of practice and know how to counter them. Our goal is full enforcement of your disability pension — in and out of court.

  • Claim denials and policy contests
  • Cessation of ongoing BU pension (review proceedings)
  • Pre-contractual disclosure breach (§ 19 VVG)
  • Abstract and specific referral clauses
  • Medical expert opinions and counter-expertise
  • Interim injunctions when benefits are stopped immediately
  • Disability riders in life insurance contracts (BUZ)

Following accidents, insurers regularly dispute the degree of invalidity, the progression scale, causation, and the definition of "accident" itself. Questions of pre-existing conditions and notification deadlines add further complexity. We secure the full contractual benefit owed to you — with the necessary resolve.

  • Invalidity assessment, grading and progression scale
  • Definition of "accident" (§ 178 VVG)
  • Pre-existing conditions (§ 182 VVG)
  • Notification and litigation deadlines
  • Death benefits and hospital daily allowance
  • Accident insurance for the self-employed and directors

Fire, burglary, water damage, storm — with property losses, full indemnity is what counts. Insurers regularly raise duty breaches, underinsurance, increased risk, or pre-damage deductions. We handle buildings and contents insurance as well as commercial property cover and lead expert appraisal proceedings where parties dispute the extent of loss.

  • Buildings insurance: fire, storm, water, natural hazards
  • Contents insurance: burglary, fire, water
  • Technical and machinery insurance
  • Duty breaches and increased risk (§§ 23 ff. VVG)
  • Expert appraisal proceedings (§ 84 VVG)
  • Underinsurance defence and replacement value

Life and pension policies promise security — and do not always deliver. Inadequate surrender values, opaque profit participation, invalid objection notices, or improper cancellation deductions are frequent disputes. We know the extensive BGH case law and enforce your entitlements.

  • Objection right (§ 5a VVG, perpetual right of rescission)
  • Surrender values, cancellation deductions, minimum values
  • Profit participation and guaranteed interest claims
  • Death benefits and beneficiary disputes
  • Unit-linked policies and investment-related policies
  • Disability riders within life insurance contracts

Private health insurance is a frequent source of disputes — particularly regarding reimbursement of treatment costs and premium increases. Recent case law has recognised substantial claims against insurers for unlawful premium adjustments. We represent policyholders against their PKV insurer.

  • Reimbursement disputes: medical necessity and reasonableness
  • Invalid premium increases and reclaims
  • Benefit reduction due to pre-existing conditions
  • Daily sickness benefit insurance and review proceedings
  • Long-term care supplementary insurance
  • Travel health insurance (emergency treatment, repatriation)

Legal expenses insurance is meant to secure access to justice — but is frequently used by insurers as a cost-avoidance instrument. Denial on grounds of lack of prospects, disputes about the insured event, coverage gaps: we know the typical defence tactics and enforce your cover.

  • Denial due to alleged lack of prospects of success
  • Coverage dispute: insured event and pre-contractuality
  • Indemnity claim and fee release
  • Employment, landlord and traffic legal protection
  • Criminal legal protection
  • Coverage action against the legal expenses insurer

Directors & Officers policies, E&O covers, cyber insurance and other specialty lines are legally complex. We advise on both the insurer and policyholder side and accompany coverage disputes and internal liability defence. Errors in handling D&O claims can reach company-threatening proportions.

  • D&O – Directors & Officers Liability Insurance
  • Management liability and coverage disputes
  • E&O / Errors & Omissions / Professional Indemnity (international)
  • Cyber insurance: coverage and claims settlement
  • Fidelity and crime insurance

From private liability to complex commercial liability: we represent policyholders in enforcing cover against their liability insurer. Product liability, environmental liability, and recall costs are areas where legal expertise can be decisive for a company's survival.

  • Private and business liability insurance
  • Product liability and recall cost insurance
  • Coverage action against the liability insurer
  • Environmental liability (UHV)
  • Duty breaches and loss of cover

Business interruption insurance protects companies against economic losses arising from an operational standstill — whether caused by fire, water damage, machinery breakdown, or regulatory closure orders. When insurers deny cover, shorten indemnity periods, or reduce compensation, the consequences can be existential. We enforce your full entitlement with the necessary resolve — in court and out of court.

  • Coverage denials and disputes following business interruption
  • Fire BI, water damage BI, machinery BI
  • Disputes over indemnity periods and limits
  • Duty breaches in the claims process
  • Business interruption following regulatory shutdown
  • Interim injunctions in acute liquidity crises

Construction projects sit at the intersection of builders' risk, liability, and specialty insurance — a complex and dispute-prone area. Contractors' all-risk insurance, fire during construction, construction site liability, developer liability, and completion guarantees are legally multifaceted. We represent developers, contractors, and builders in coverage disputes with litigation experience at all levels.

  • Contractors' all-risk insurance: denials and coverage disputes
  • Fire during construction (Feuer-Rohbauversicherung)
  • Construction site liability and site manager responsibility
  • Developer liability and obligations under MaBV
  • Completion guarantee insurance
  • Construction warranty insurance
Bridge

We build Bridges

between complex insurance terms and clear entitlements.

Liability Law

Professional liability of solicitors and tax advisors

We represent professional indemnity-insured solicitors and tax advisors in liability claims — exclusively on the advisor and insurer side. This mandate demands deep understanding of both professional law and insurance law. Both are our daily practice.

We analyse the allegation, coordinate the defence, and accompany judicial and extrajudicial proceedings with the care and discretion these sensitive mandates require.

Get in touch

In this practice area we act exclusively for the advisor or insurer — not for claimants.

Solicitor Liability

Missed deadlines, negligent advice, defective contracts — we coordinate defence and PI coverage for solicitors and their professional indemnity insurers. From first notification to final resolution.

Tax Advisor Liability

Negligent structuring, omitted warnings, missed filing deadlines — we represent tax advisors and their PI insurers in civil liability disputes.

Coverage Analysis

Not every liability claim triggers insurance cover. We review policy terms, duties and exclusions from the insurer's perspective and litigate disputed coverage with experience.

Defence and Loss Mitigation

Claims can often be reduced or defeated. We develop defence strategies, negotiate settlements and represent in proceedings — with efficient resolution as our aim.

Two specialist lawyers think
every case together.

What happens when two specialist lawyers for insurance law with over two decades of shared practice think through your case together? A quality of argumentation that sole practitioners and generalists cannot achieve. The structured professional exchange, the complementary areas of focus, the four-eyes principle in strategy — this is the model of this firm.

Complex mandates are discussed by both lawyers. What one side does not see, the other sees. What one builds, the other sharpens. This benefits you directly.
